Mustache Wax Competition
We recently added Google AdSense to MustacheMonth.com to try to generate a few cents on all of our not very hard work. The idea of Google AdSense is that Google scans your website and finds ads that match the content of your website. Google then provides code to put into the website so that you can place advertisements on your site that may interest your target audience. If visitors click on these ads, you get paid. I didn't read the fine print so I can't tell you how much money that each click generates, but I can tell you that through about 10 days we have generated $0.00.
On the first day that KY added the code to the site, we got an advertisement for Gravy Jay's Mustache Wax. After checking out the site, we decided it would be cool to contact all the makers of Mustache Wax that we could locate on the internet, tell them that we were doing a Mustache Wax judging and ask the companies to donate their product for us to test. It started out as a joke, because we figured that nobody would respond and if they did they would simply tell us to piss up a rope because we were asking them to give us what they were trying to sell. We weren't too scared of getting shot down by these folks because honestly, we thought it would be hilarious to post the idea and then all the rejection letters that we got. Maybe we could just judge the rejection letters...
We found several different brands of Mustache Wax, but many of them were being sold by third parties and not by the companies that actually produced the wax. Contacting these sites and asking for free samples would be like going to Fry's and asking to test Poore Brothers potato chips. Luckily, we located seven different companies online that produced and sold their own wax and contacted each of them by email.
The day after sending the email we heard from one company. Within a week we had gotten responses from four of the seven Mustache Wax producers that we had contacted. Surprisingly, every single response was positive. Each email received only wanted to know how much wax we needed for the testing and how soon we needed it!! We were stunned.
The issue now is to establish the rules and much more importantly a sweet name for the Mustache Wax judging. The early favorite is The Mr. Miyagi Wax On Wax Off Mustache Wax Competition*, but we are open to suggestion. Please post any name or rule suggestions in the comments and stay tuned to find out which Mustache Wax is tops.
*Mr. Miyagi is not affiliated with the Mustache Wax Competition or MustacheMonth.com. He is, in fact, a fictional character, but is still really really badass.
